The City of St. John’s is juggling funds earmarked for parks and recreation projects, including development of parks, playgrounds and trails.
After a lengthy discussion at Committee of the Whole yesterday, council decided to put on hold observation units at Bowring Park, extension of a trail in the MicNiven Place area, and phase one of the park in Galway.
Staff also recommended that funds earmarked for the Bicycle Master Plan be deferred for now but most of those in attendance yesterday were not in favour of that move.
The money allocated by the city is part of an application to Ottawa for federal funding.
Councillor Maggie Burton saw it as important that the project not be delayed.
The vote was so very close that everything regarding deferral of parks and recreation projects is essentially up in the air until the next council meeting.
