The mandatory public use of face masks is a topic of discussion in other provinces, but the Chief Medical Officer of Health says she wants to avoid the measure here.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says there are many factors to keep in mind when considering mandatory face masks. They include those who for one reason or another cannot wear a face mask.
She says the expectation is that if you’re in public and you cannot remain at least six feet away that masks are to be worn. She expects that people would follow those guidelines, but admits compliance is not as high as public health would like to see.
