A popular outdoor activity in St. John’s has been derailed by the government’s COVID-19 restrictions, but the main organizer says the rule doesn’t make sense in her case.
Each week, dozens would gather on the spacious grounds of Government House for an outdoor yoga session, free of charge, but the event has been declared a mass gathering.
Despite having plenty of space to allow for social distancing, no more than 50 people can participate.
Melanie Caines of Nova Yoga says people bring their own mats and are spread out over 22 acres.
She had to turn away about 50 people at this week’s session.
She says it would be a wellness break – a mental and physical boost, but she’s being told that she has to send them home instead.
