A man who returned to Newfoundland and Labrador from the United States has tested positive for COVID-19, but he self-isolated upon his return.
The man, who is in the 50-59 age range, is a resident of the Eastern Health region which encompasses, generally, St. John’s to the Bonavista Peninsula and Burin Peninsula. He did not travel through the Maritimes on his return.
The Department of Health and Community Services says he was not symptomatic during travel to the province, and followed self-isolation protocol upon his return. Because of that, the risk to the public is low at this time. However, contact tracing is underway, and everyone considered a close contact will be advised to quarantine.
It’s the first positive case in the province after 42 days.
