Women’s rights advocates are calling on people across Canada to join a 22-minute strike today at noon to demand a public inquiry into the deadly mass shootings in Nova Scotia in April.
Federal and provincial governments announced last week that an expert panel would review the incident. The review will be led by former NS chief Justice Michael MacDonald.
Organizer and women’s rights advocate Jenny Wright says they were disappointed by the announcement because families were asking for a transparent inquiry into the 13-hour rampage.
This Monday, July 27th at noon, we are calling for a 22 minute-strike.
Join the strike in person or online.
We ask that you stop what you are doing for 22 minutes and demand that our leaders call a full public inquiry. #22ReasonsWhy 👇🏽👇https://t.co/fVXRR4CYbg pic.twitter.com/jP7BbKoJWE

Wright says the shootings mark a tragic event for all Canadians. She states that it must be a pivot for change, and a reason why the country sets structural changes and amendments to the laws.
She explains that an inquiry will properly bring the issues to the forefront to help the system so that violence like this won’t happen again.
The 22-minute strike is a tribute to the 22 lives taken by the shooter in April. The strike is taking place at Victoria Park in Halifax, or online through Facebook Live.
