The Transportation Safety Board has released more information on the helicopter crash that claimed the life of a Gambo man near Thorburn Lake in July.
The privately-owned Robinson R44 helicopter was on a multi-leg cross-country pleasure flight on July 20.
The TSB says the helicopter left the Springdale airport that day and was en route to refuel at Thorburn Lake.
Upon arriving, the pilot did a precautionary circuit over the planned landing site: a gravel parking lot surrounded by trees.
The TSB says the helicopter hovered at tree-top level, but began to climb vertically before the pilot lost control and crashed.
The passenger in the rear seat was killed, while the pilot and front passenger sustained serious injuries. Witnesses in the area provided first aid and extinguished a small fire.
Further information is available on the Transportation Safety Board’s website.
The investigation continues.
