A 62-year-old New World Island man is dead after a single-vehicle collision on the Road to the Isles near Virgin Arm.

Twillingate RCMP were called to the scene around 5:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Police say the man’s vehicle had swerved off the road and struck a rock cliff in the ditch.

The victim, from Newville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

It was the second fatal crash in the area in the last few days.

On Friday a 54-year-old woman from Durrell’s Arm died as the result of a single-vehicle crash on the Gander Bay Road. Family members say the vehicle in which she was a passenger, had swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
