A local enthusiast is helping to document an overlooked part of the province’s cultural history.
Jordan Young is the administrator of the Facebook group Swim Club NL, created by Swervy Garland.

It became a place to share directions and pictures of some of the group’s favourite swimming spots.
In 2009, the Scope created a Google doc of some of the capital city’s swimming holes, but Young was disappointed to learn it no longer existed.
That’s when he decided to create a new one encompassing the entire province, and it’s proven to be very popular.
Instead of constantly sending directions to people looking for swimming holes, now he simply shares the document.
The public can add their own locations to the map. He says to date, it’s been viewed about 20,000 times with some 300 spots on the map and more being added every week.
