The Leader of the provincial Progressive Conservative Party is wishing CPC leader Erin O’Toole the best in his new role.
Members of the Conservative Party of Canada chose Erin O’Toole as their new leader in a protracted weekend process that dragged into the wee hours Monday.
While well-known within the Conservative Party’s ranks, O’Toole’s name has not garnered a lot of public recognition.
O’Toole, a former Royal Canadian Air Force officer, previously served as Veteran’s Affairs minister under Stephen Harper.
He’s pledged to end Bill C-69, which overhauled the environmental process around large infrastructure projects and was met with great concern in the local oil and gas industry.
He also endorses a harder-right stance, leaving progressive conservatives wondering what’s next.
Provincial PC Leader Ches Crosbie says he first met O’Toole at his late father’s funeral and says he’s looking forward to discussing with him how he intends to support Newfoundland and Labrador at what he calls “a particularly difficult time.”
