Canada Post’s distribution of a US publication that has been one of the strongest advocates of outgoing US President Donald Trump has many people asking serious questions.
By now, many residents across regions of Newfoundland have received a copy of the Epoch Times, delivered directly to their mailbox.
Donald Trump is the first president in US history to be impeached twice. He is now facing charges of inciting an insurrection following the storming of the Capitol Building by violent supporters. Five people died in last week’s incident that sent shock waves around the world.
Since then efforts have been made by social media to check the dissemination of disinformation.
Craig Dyer is with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. He says the first pamphlets first started being distributed in December, prompting union members to raise serious questions.
He says many postal workers are taking exception to the newspapers, raising concerns to Canada Post about the content, which includes what many have challenged as racist and homophobic attitudes, as well as spreading conspiracy theories.
Dyer says it’s being treated by Canada Post as targeted ad mail, which is being distributed to certain areas. He says customers are letting them know what they think about it.
Dyer says the Water Street Canada Post outlet was recently targeted by graffiti questioning the distribution of the right-wing paper.
A petition has been launched calling on Canada Post to stop distributing the material to non-subscribed Canadians.
