It is being predicted that seafood consumption could see a significant increase over the next few decades, meaning there is a great economic opportunity there that this province can seize.
Last week, as part of NATI’s innovation week, a virtual panel was held discussing that trend and how Newfoundland and Labrador can take advantage of it.
Cameron Moffat, Sustainability Manager at Young’s Seafood—the largest seafood company in the UK—was part of that panel.
He says one of the things the province needs to do is educate younger generations about the positive benefits of seafood. He jokes that the only type of seafood kids eat is fish fingers.
As well, Moffat argues that making seafood more accessible by presenting it in more “ready to eat” options would help with consumption as well.
He says there would be great economic benefits for this province in terms of export markets.
