Officials in the United States have announced arrests and charges in connection with recent ransomware attacks against about 2,500 companies and agencies.
The province is currently dealing with a major cyber attack that has paralyzed the province’s health care system.
It’s not known if the arrests made by US authorities is connected to the cyber attack which started shutting down IT systems in the province’s health care system last weekend.
Reports out of the US indicate that a number of hackers have been arrested and officials are seeking their extradition to the United States. They include Ukranian Yaroslav Vasininskyi and Russian Yevgeniy Polyanin.
They are believed to be linked to the REvil Group, which is believed responsible for some 5,000 ransomware attacks worldwide.
EU officials have made additional arrests in Romania according to the Washington Post.
