NL Health Services is conducting a review into the roles and classification of licensed practical nurses (LPNs).
Health Minister Tom Osborne says a status report on the review is one of the biggest questions asked of him by LPNs across the province.
He says meetings are being arranged by NL Health Services and will include all stakeholders, including unions.
But as minister, Osborne says he’s also met with the health authority and NAPE President Jerry Earle, including the LPN group within the union.
NL Health Services has also initiated a road show to get students to consider licensed practical nursing as a profession.
Osborne says NAPE requested that they get into high schools to “encourage students to look at health professions, in particular LPNs.”
The minister was responding on VOCM Open Line to concerns raised by LPNs during National Nursing Week.
