A 76-year-old woman has been ticketed by Bonavista RCMP after failing to stop for a school bus picking up a young child in Plate Cove West.
The incident happened around 8:00 a.m. last Thursday, as the child was boarding the bus with its stop sign and emergency lights activated. The vehicle drove through the stop sign, but fortunately, the child was not hurt.
Thanks to witness descriptions, police located the driver and issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for illegally passing a stopped school bus.
RCMP reminds drivers to always stop when a school bus has its lights and sign activated. Failing to do so can result in a fine of $500 to $1,500 and six demerit points.
