It’s been a rough week for Newco Metals.
A crash on Incinerator Road yesterday that left two in hospital should never have happened, says Operations Manager Don Drew.
That, after a fire Tuesday evening damaged a brand new piece of machinery still being assembled.

Drew says they are a locally-owned company, like a family, and these incidents are hard on everyone.
Damage from the fire is still being repaired and Thursday’s crash resulted in the write-off of a new $225,000 truck, not to mention the broken nose and other injuries to the woman driving it.

He says her quick action yesterday meant the difference between injury and fatality for her and the other driver, but the worst part is that the accident was preventable.
He says they warned the city about that exact stretch of road months ago.
Incinerator Road was put in in the 70s to access a dump, but now it’s a major industrial thoroughfare used by workers, trucks and college students.
Drew says the road needs to be straightened and fixed.
