The real stars of the event were members of Duey Fitzgerald’s family.
His son Stephen Fitzgerald acted as the family spokesperson.
He says that its a great day for the family, to have the park named after his father and they couldn’t be prouder.
Duey was a well-known sports figure in St. John’s and was inducted into seven local, provincial and national Sports Halls of Fame.
He passed away in 2018 at the age of 84.
