Local medical technology startup, BreatheSuite is looking to expand operations after securing more funding.
BreatheSuite today received $550,000 in funding from Venture Newfoundland and Labrador LP and private angel investors. $250,000 of that comes from Venture Newfoundland and Labrador LP.
Venture Newfoundland and Labrador LP is a public/private venture capital fund created by Pelorus Venture Capital, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, BDC Capital Inc. and private angel investors.
Founded by 23-year-old Brett Vokey of St. John’s, BreatheSuite is developing an inhaler add-on to allow patients to use their inhaler properly without the need for separate training devices.
Vokey says 90 per cent of those who use inhalers use them incorrectly, and by using digital health intervention, BreatheSuite aims to close that gap by teaching proper inhaler technique and adherence.

With the funding, Vokey says they’re excited to grow their team, explore the US market, and get this technology into as many hands as possible.
Vokey ended his speech by saying “we’re hiring”—something Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation Bernard Davis says he was happy to hear, and something they want to hear more of.
