Just as the number of skilled trades jobs at Argentia was set to more than double in size, Husky Energy has suspended work at the construction site.
Husky issued a statement Sunday saying “the decision reinforces Husky’s objective to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus among its employees, contractors, and the community.”
On Friday, the CEO of Trades NL, Darin King, told the VOCM Morning Show that the current workforce of 600 would balloon to 1500 employees in a week and a half with people working shoulder-to-shoulder during the next concrete pour.
Husky CEO Rob Peabody says “we are taking the steps necessary to keep our people and our construction sites safe.”
This news comes just days after Equinor and Husky Energy shelved the Bay du Nord oil development because of failing oil prices and the Covid-19 crisis.
