The Town of Placentia is not happy with Marine Atlantic’s decision to scrub the Argentia ferry service for the entire summer.
The town knew some time ago that demand would be down, so it reached out to government and the company to consider an increase in commercial traffic and a reduction in fares to help offset the drop in tourist traffic. With the majority of freight destined for the Avalon, Mayor Bernard Power saw it as safer and more practical to land on the Avalon.

Marine Atlantic employs close to 30 people directly at the Argentia terminal on a seasonal basis, and is the strongest economic booster for tourism in the Placentia region.
Two summers ago, 84 crossings went through Argentia with over 30,000 passenger movements.
