St. John’s City Council has voted against rescinding the decision to allow Sonco Group to develop the AP Parking Garage in downtown St. John’s.

A petition garnered over 6,600 signatures, spurring the Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary to bring the action to council.

However, the motion failed 10-1 with O’Leary being the only councilor to vote in favour of rescinding the decision.

Councillor Maggie Burton, who has consistently opposed the development since its beginning. She voted against rescission due to legal ramifications and council not having any new information since the decision was originally made.
