Members of the RCMP in this province would largely support the use of body cameras while on duty.
That’s according to the Assistant Commissioner of the RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ches Parsons.
He says many members have come up to him personally to say such devices should be used. He adds that officers, as a whole, have been asking for them for some time.
Parsons notes that body cameras play a key role in helping to accurately portray a given situation, but they do come with some inherent challenges in addition to hefty price tags.
Parsons claims there have been issues with using the devices in cold and extreme weather conditions. He says they have to take these things into account before integrating such systems into the force.
