Vendors and patrons alike were excited to get back to the local shopping scene.
The St. John’s Farmers’ Market opened its doors for the first time in months on Saturday as the province is now in Alert Level 3.
However, there are a few changes at the venue. There will only be 100 people allowed in at a time and there is no indoor seating.
Pam Anstey, executive director says there was a steady stream of people walking through the doors, which made it easy to work with the new safety measures in place.
Anstey says patrons have been patiently lining up and following the one-way traffic flow. She says it’s been a fun, high-energy day at the market.
Some vendors have transitioned to sell their products online, but for some crafters like Jeanine McDonald of Cheerio Creations, virtual shopping is not ideal for her business.
McDonald says being in the public is where her business thrives. She says its great to get back to the market to show off her products, talk with customers and share stories.
McDonald says it is difficult to smile and interact with customers while wearing a mask, but adds, everyone is doing what they can.
