Federal Natural Resource Minister Seamus O’Regan did not have any significant updates on rate mitigation when speaking with the media on Friday.
The minister did say that conversations between the Department of Finance and Department of Natural Resources have been ongoing.
He says the government was preoccupied in the initial months of the pandemic, but they are back at it again.
O’Regan says the federal government has committed to supporting Newfoundland and Labrador in its efforts to achieve rate mitigation.
He says government could not have predicted the pandemic, or the costs associated with it. However, he says the commitment remains the same and just as solid.
Provincial Natural Resources Minister Siobhan Coady expects an update on the impacts of COVID-19 on Muskrat Falls from CEO Stan Marshall by late September.
