Marine Atlantic says they’ve had 5000 reservations since the opening of the Atlantic bubble.
Darrell Mercer, the communications officer says the capacity has been fairly significant.
He says this week the ferry service increased their passenger limits to 175 plus commercial traffic, next week it will increase to 200.
Mercer says their traffic is about a 50/50 split of people coming from the Maritime provinces and Newfoundlanders heading to the rest of Atlantic Canada.
As for those worried about other travelers slipping through the cracks, he says the number of inspectors has been increased.
He says the regulations for entering our province are on their website as part of the registration process. The Government has increased the number of inspectors in Port Aux Basques, so everyone who comes off the ferry has to go through the inspectors before they are allowed to carry on, with all the identification checks done right there.
Mercer adds that the Leif Ericson has been added to the schedule for commercial traffic to free up space on the other boats.
