July 1st was a nice way to start the month in metro St. John’s but many cool days followed. By yesterday, the average July temperature was one of the coolest on record. The average daily high according to Gander meteorologist Rodney Barney was 18.0 degrees, well below the normal of 20.7.
The metro region had 15 times as many hours at 20-plus degrees last July than the same month this year.
Barney also notes that it was the coolest July since the infamous summer of 2015 when most of the island was drizzly, foggy and cold.
