A complaint repeated among parents during the COVID-19 pandemic surrounds the apparent dependency some children have developed in electronic devices.
While tablets, smartphones and game consoles have been great tools in keeping kids connected and learning, some parents are concerned about weaning them off.
Psychologist Dr. Janine Hubbard acknowledges some people can get addicted to electronics, and it can vary depending on the child and the type of device involved.
She says there are studies that have shown the receptors that light up in the brains of some children with ADHD while playing certain video games are the same receptors that light up when someone takes cocaine.
Not to worry says Hubbard; as students return to more structured routines, their time spent on devices will naturally diminish.
