Police are investigating the cause of a blaze on the west coast that had many area residents on edge yesterday.

Around 8:40 a.m. first responders were called to a fire at an empty home on Main street in Heatherton.

Area residents were evacuated due to the risk to nearby buildings.

The home where the fire originated was completely destroyed, a nearby vacant store was damaged, and the siding on some nearby homes was melted.

Residents were allowed to return to the area over the lunch hour.
