The Association for New Canadians has received $120,000 for a program that helps newcomer youth deal with mental health issues.
The cheque was presented to the association by RBC earlier today.
The funding is for the second phase of the 2Gether Program, which addresses mental health issues for young new Canadians and helps them better ease into life in a new country.
The project uses an advisory council, made up of new Canadians, who help establish programs and services that can be used.
Project lead Tanya Lush says the money will help them begin phase two of the project, which will involve what she calls “narrative form of therapy” which will train the youth to do peer-to-peer counselling where they can talk about their pasts and their futures.
