A KPMG report on whether or not to privatize Mile One Centre will cost the capital city $35,000.
KPMG conducted a similar review last year, comparing public and private sector models for the operation of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment. That report found the city’s current model to be the most common among other municipalities across the country.
The cost of the new report is higher than what was first estimated due to a broader scope to be covered, including analyzing current private models in place, possible restrictions, methods to determine a selling price, implications on building systems, labour relations, tourism, and long-term financial impacts for the city.
The report is due in early December.
In the meantime, the city is setting up an independent subcommittee to consider the potential sale of the facility.
