A patio at a restaurant downtown St. John’s erected for the pedestrian mall was ripped apart the night before last. A hit and run wrecked the patio at Adelaide’s Oyster House.
Megan Furlong, the general manager, was first notified of the damage around midnight Wednesday.
Surveillance footage from a business next door shows a vehicle smashing into the patio. She describes seeing headlights, a splash of water, and then “the whole thing comes down.”
Furlong says she was angry when she first saw the footage, calling the situation “a little disheartening, a lot annoying.” However, she isn’t letting the situation damper the overall pedestrian mall experience.
She says it hasn’t tarnished the feel-good fuzzies they got from the community over the summertime.
