Black Tickle, Labrador will soon have a new fire pump and 600-foot fire hose thanks to Nalcor Energy Churchill Falls Fire and Security.
Some surplus equipment was located by Nalcor officials that they felt could be of use to Black Tickle after they heard news of a house fire in the isolated Labrador community earlier this year.
The chair of the Black Tickle Local Service District, Joe Keef, says they are grateful to the Churchill Falls Fire Department for the donation.
He says it will give them the means to possibly save lives whereas before, all they could do was “sit back and watch.”
Churchill Falls manager of Emergency Services, Darrin Mills, and Fire and Security officer Matthew Brenton will travel to Black Tickle today to present the equipment and provide training.
