The City of St. John’s is encouraging people to consider composting when it comes time to retire your jack o’ lanterns this year.
Porches and windows will be filled with flickering faces this Halloween as folks get into the holiday spirit. But to avoid a nasty trick, officials encourage people to remove pumpkins from your property following celebrations.
An easy solution, the city suggests, is to consider composting.
City crews will pick up your pumpkin curbside the next recycling day, as long as it’s placed in a paper yard bag.
As well, a pumpkin collection site will be set up on The Boulevard on November 1 from noon to 5 p.m. for folks looking to drop off their jack o’ lanterns.
Collected pumpkins will be composted for use in city parks.
