The province appears to have had a change of heart on the issue of unlocking some types of pensions this fall.
On Monday, Service NL Minister Sarah Stoodley said it was unlikely legislation to free up access to LIRAs or locked-in retirement accounts, would be passed before Christmas.
But yesterday, in response to a question from Opposition Leader Ches Crosbie, Stoodley said they may be able to do it after all.
She says she has since spoken with department staff and Government House Leader Steve Crocker about speeding up the process and possibly bringing the House back to get the legislation passed.
Stoodley clarified that any unlocking of pensions would be linked to long-term financial stability and not short-term purchases such as Christmas gifts.
