More indoor school sports are being reintroduced as of next week, and the executive director of School Sports NL believes their plan will satisfy the wants and needs of coaches and players across the province.
Last month, a gradual reintroduction of indoor activities was announced, beginning with music and volleyball.
That led to some advocates saying the approach was too cautious, and that more activities could be allowed to proceed in a safe manner.
Karen Richard believes the new guidelines address those concerns. She explains that while the reopening follows School Sports NL’s seasons of play, it gives the flexibility of schools allowing other sports if they have the means to do so.
As an example, she says that if a school has never played indoor soccer, but they have a lot of students wanting to play basketball, they can work to set that up for students.
