A section of Empire Avenue in St. John’s has reopened to traffic after police descended on a home in the area this morning.
A half dozen RNC vehicles, including the K-9 units, sped to the scene between Cortage Place and Ropewalk shortly after 10 a.m. after police were informed that a man wanted for an alleged assault was in the house.
The home was surrounded for about two hours while officers investigated but later determined the suspect was not there.
A police spokesperson says they have since made contact with the suspect at another location with plans to resolve the situation peacefully.
