Newfoundland and Labrador is restricting movement within the Atlantic Bubble.
The province will soon require people arriving from the other Atlantic provinces to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.
The change takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday.
It’s a two-week pilot, after which government will consider fully rejoining the Atlantic Bubble, according to Premier Andrew Furey.
He says the alarm bells began to sound after the number of cases in the Maritimes began creeping up. He has spoken to his colleagues in the Maritimes about the situation.
PEI is also closing its bubble for the next two weeks.
Instead of being tested on day five of their return to NL, rotational workers will now have to wait until the seventh day.
Meanwhile, the provincial government is adjusting its policy surrounding the Labrador Straits and Blanc Sablon.
As of Wednesday, there will be no non-essential travel between Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador permitted. However, residents of the Labrador Straits are permitted to head to the airport and ferry terminal without being required to prove it’s for essential travel.
