The province is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 in the Eastern Health region.
The first case is a woman in her 60s linked to the Grand Bank cluster, she is not a tenant of Blue Crest Cottages in the community. The woman is a close contact of a previously known case, a member of the same household. The woman is self-isolating and contact tracing is underway.
The second new confirmed case is a man in his 50s. The case is travel-related, the man is a resident of the province who returned home from the United States. The man is self-isolating and contact tracing is underway.
The Department of Health is also providing an update on the three cases announced yesterday as the source of those cases were unknown.
Those cases are all travel-related. One case is a person who came to the province from Europe, the second is a person who travelled to the province from Asia. Both cases are in the Eastern Health region, and they are unrelated.
The third case from yesterday is a close contact of a traveller who returned from work in British Columbia. This case is in the Western Health region but is unrelated to the recent cluster in Deer Lake.
The province now has 32 active cases.
Travel Advisory Issued
Out of an abundance of caution, the Department of Health and Community Services is asking passengers who travelled on Air Canada flight 7480 from Montreal to St. John’s on November 25 to call 811 to arrange for testing.
The department is also advising rotational workers about three COVID-19 outbreaks in Alberta. The outbreaks are at the Cenovus Energy Foster Creek oil sands project, the Cenovus Energy Christina Lake oil sands project and the Syncrude Canada Aurora mine site.
Rotational Workers who work with these projects who returned to the province in the last 14 days must self-isolate and physically distance from household members and call 811 for COVID-19 testing. They must complete a full 14 day isolation, regardless of a negative test result.
