A woman is in custody after a police officer was reportedly assaulted during the escort of a prisoner at the airport in Natuashish on Thursday.
Police say the woman was being taken to Happy Valley-Goose Bay for a court appearance on charges of assault, uttering threats, and breach following an incident on November 27.
According to the RCMP, two officers were escorting the woman when she bit one of the officers on the hand and refused to let go. The officer used force to free his hand, but police say she continued to resist, and once inside the plane continued to assault the officer.
RCMP say she now faces additional charges of assaulting an officer and failing to comply with court-ordered conditions.
The officer was treated for injuries, while the woman did not require medical attention, say police.
