Members and supporters of the local Indian community lined the sidewalk of Kenmount Road as part of ongoing worldwide protests on Friday.
The demonstration was to rally against major changes in the Indian farming industry. Protesters arrived with signs supporting farmer’s rights to protest and condemning the police pushback. Signs encouraged people passing by to honk to show their support.
Many demonstrators have personal ties to the farming industry back in India. Harmanjeet Singh is one of them.
Singh says nearly everyone attending the protest comes from a farming family in India and they are fighting for their way of life.
Some members of the protest lauded MP Jack Harris tweeting his support for the protests on Monday.
The violence targeting farmers in India is alarming
The peaceful protests embody the resilient spirit of Punjabi farmers
On Gurpurab, I join Sikhs from across Canada in calling on Justin Trudeau to condemn the Indian Govts violent repression of protestshttps://t.co/j4HsZs3GvX
