The Opposition grilled another cabinet minister yesterday over allegations of interference with a police investigation surrounding the leak of confidential cabinet information.
An RCMP document states Tourism Minister Bernard Davis called RNC Chief Joe Boland in March, looking for an update on the investigation into then-minister Sherry Gambin-Walsh and an RNC officer.
Gambin-Walsh and Sgt. Paul Didham were being investigated with breach of trust over leaked details of RNC promotions, but later cleared.
PC Leader Ches Crosbie cited the RCMP document in questioning Davis on the matter.
He wanted to know if Davis believes it was appropriate to call the chief of police looking for information about an ongoing investigation of a fellow minister.
Davis flatly denied the allegation, saying he couldn’t have discussed the investigation into Gambin-Walsh because he didn’t know anything about it at that time.
He says he only called Chief Boland as a friend to see how he was dealing with other difficult issues involving the police force.
According to the RCMP document, Davis asked Boland how the investigation was going, with the chief telling Davis he couldn’t discuss it with him.
