The Medical Association is highlighting access to family care physicians as candidates hit the hustings in the provincial election.
NLMA President Dr. Lynette Powell says about 90,000 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have no family doctor, and the province needs to recruit and retain more young doctors.
Powell says they have brought those concerns to each of the party leaders and have asked each party to outline their plan to improve patient access.
She is calling on each political party to commit to a province-wide program of primary healthcare teams, where family practitioners can transfer away from solo practice to team practice.
