We’re still waiting for some clarification from the authorities on a memo which NAPE fears outlines cuts to mental health services and facilities before the replacement for the Waterford even accepts its first patient.
A new mental health and addictions hospital is going to be built but that will take years.
NAPE President Jerry Earle is trying to piece together what the memo means. He says Eastern Health notified in that memo last week that 40 beds are being transitioned in the coming weeks and months to “community and long-term care” as part of the process of moving to the new facility, and that licenced practical nurses are being let go.
Earle also says Eastern Health is talking about closing North 3A, a type of unit which meets the needs of unique and complex clients. He says there has been no consultation with the workers.
