The City of Mount Pearl is setting up four outdoor ice skating rinks.
It’s part of a growing trend across the province to re-introduce outdoor ice surfaces to keep people active and healthy throughout the winter months.
Mayor Dave Aker says the rinks will be located at the Gloria Pearson Community Centre on Murley Drive near the tennis courts, and two at Team Gushue.
The ice surfaces are small, accommodating only about 10 or 15 people.
Aker says the city will set up the rinks, flood and freeze them, then hand them over to community volunteers for maintenance.
One of our first temporary outdoor rinks is underway! Do you recognize where it’s located?(We’ll post more details once the ice is ready for skating…stay tuned!)
