Conception Bay South says an engineering consultant has been called in to assess damage to the inner harbour breakwater at Long Pond.
The breakwater was heavily damaged by a storm in the fall of 2019, and extensive repairs were made after it was nearly destroyed during Snowmageddon last winter.
Once again, large portions of the breakwater are missing as the result of recent heavy swells.
The town says there is currently no precise time frame for repair work to get started, as they will “likely require favourable weather conditions and calm seas.”
Residents Concerned Over “Key Asset”
Anderson Noel is with the Royal Newfoundland and Labrador yacht club in Conception Bay South.
Noel says the yacht club learned about the latest damage this week. He calls it very worrisome.
He says the damage is immediately adjacent to their facility, but it’s also of great concern to the town as a whole. He calls it a “key asset” that both commercial and recreational boaters use and the breach is now filling in a navigable waterway.
