VOCM News is learning more about the man accused of threatening to execute politicians and wanting to stop the provincial election.
66-year-old George Brake of Shoal Brook was arrested Tuesday morning outside the office of a Deer Lake candidate after leading RCMP on a high-speed chase along the TCH and through the town. Police found three dozen different types of knives in the cab of his pickup, including one weapon which was by his side.
VOCM has learned that Brake first stopped at the town office for Glenburnie-Birchy Head-Shoal Brook over a municipal issue, but the office was closed. He then went to a nearby gas station to ask why the office was closed, then departed for Deer Lake.

The threat was thwarted by RCMP after receiving a tip about Brake’s intentions, but it remains unclear who called police with the information.
Brake has been charged with possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and fleeing from police.
He made a brief court appearance via teleconference in Corner Brook yesterday when two firearms charges were added following a search of his mobile home in Shoal Brook.
Brake has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment at the Waterford Hospital in St. John’s. He remains in custody until his next court date next Thursday.
