Health officials are not indicating any intentions of making changes to process at the Labrador border following newly confirmed cases in Fermont, Quebec.
COVID-19 spread in Labrador has been a significant concern throughout the pandemic, as many indigenous communities are isolated and considered high risk.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says the health department is in contact with officials in Quebec.
She doesn’t believe the risk to be high at this time.
She explains that generally, people crossing the border are workers, they go to worksites and go through screening protocols, and are not in the communities themselves. She believes the risk is low to the communities and thus at the border as well.
