Premier Andrew Furey is responding to questions raised by the PC Party on releasing the evidence on which Furey based his decision to call an election when he did.
At the time, Furey indicated that it was a safe time to call an election, but since then the province experienced another spike in cases due to the UK variant of COVID-19.
New case counts have been at zero for the last three days, but the outbreak forced the provincial election to move to online ballots, which have to be received by 4 p.m. on March 25.
Premier Furey says the Associate Dean for Clinical Research at Memorial University, Dr. Proton Rahman has said publicly that no one could have predicted the outbreak to occur as it did, given the province’s consistently low prevalence, travel restrictions, and public health measures.
Furey is accusing Ches Crosbie of “absolute desperation” on raising the allegations.
