The Royal Canadian Legion plays an important role, not just in honoring Canada’s war veterans, but all those who have risked their lives in the line of duty.
That’s according to Jenn Deon, the secretary for Legion Branch 56.
The Legion is preparing to put off a special event on July 2nd to honor remaining World War II veterans.
However, the Legion isn’t just about veterans and their families, it’s also about other groups who put their lives on the line – like the RCMP.
She says branches have been struggling recently, and it’s important that people have a better understanding of what the Legion does.
There’s a stereotype, she says, that the Legion is just for “the old guys”, and that, coupled with the effects of COVID-19 have made things difficult financially for many branches. She says addressing those issues will be important coming out of the pandemic.
