Residents of St. Anthony are pushing back against Labrador-Grenfell Health’s claims that changes in health services in the area are temporary.
The health authority says changes in the ICU are temporary, however residents of St. Anthony claim that their findings say it would take at least six months. Residents have been reassured that these cutbacks are temporary, however, they aren’t buying it.
One of the issues they’re stressing is the lack of usage of the locum system.
Michelle Shears-Rumbolt, a resident of St. Anthony, says that she has been in contact with a nurse who told her that the changes are actually permanent and that there was never any recruitment for locum in the area.
Shears-Rumbolt says there was a schedule posted in May, which displayed possible vacation time covered by the use of locum. It was quickly taken down.
She says the schedule would allow all nursing staff at Labrador-Grenfell Health to have an agreeable amount of vacation time using locum. She says she’s willing to bet that it was Labrador-Grenfell Health management that took the schedule down and stopped the pursuit of locum.
