All Stingray Radio stations in Newfoundland and Labrador are participating in an event to amplify Indigenous Voices in honour of National Indigenous History Month.
On June 30th, Stingray Radio will be joining other media corporations in “A Day to Listen”, an event by the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, where Indigenous leaders, residential school survivors, and elders will share their stories over the airways.
This follows the discovery of the remains of 215 children buried at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C. That number has continued to grow as former residential school sites are searched across Canada.
The DWF is aiming to create a path to reconciliation and improving the lives of Indigenous people through education.
590 VOCM and its sister stations will be broadcasting the stories on the 30th, which coincides with the last day National Indigenous History Month.
